First ADs must be authoritative team-leaders and motivators, whilst also being approachable team players. They need exceptional organizational and time-management skills. The ability to plan ahead, trouble-shoot and pay close attention to detail is vital. Overall, they provide the key link between the Director, the cast and the crew, whilst also liaising with the production office, and providing regular progress reports about the shoot.

The instructors will cover the role of the First AD on smaller independent shoots.

INSTRUCTOR'S BIOGRAPHY

Corena Walby has been involved in filmmaking since 2004. She first joined the New Brunswick Filmmakers’ Cooperative as an Associate Member when she moved to Fredericton, gradually working on her volunteer hours on some local independent short films, and then moved her way into being a full member, joining the Board of Directors, and also works as the Galas and Events Chair for the Silver Wave Film Festival.

She has worked on over 20 short films, in many different crew positions (and acting). Her crew positions vary from craft services, continuity/script supervisor, production manager, production designer, to assistant director. She enjoys all aspects of filmmaking.

Britany Sparrow was born in British Columbia but relocated to Fredericton in 2004 to attend at UNB, finishing with a degree in English: Creative Writing and a certificate in Film Production in 2006. Britany joined the Film Co-op in 2006 and has worked on more than 20 film and video projects since then in the capacity of production manager, script supervisor, and first assistant director, as well as writing, directing, and producing two of her own.

Britany has been busy promoting her Short Film Venture film “The Morning After” which has shown at film festivals in Halifax, Fredericton, and Florida. In 2010, she has three projects on the go, including the post production for a film she shot in summer 2009, producing a film directed by first time filmmaker Allen Galloway, and directing an action/comedy/romance film about Dungeons and Dragons.
