First ADs must be authoritative team-leaders and
motivators, whilst also being approachable team players.
They need exceptional organizational and time-management
skills. The ability to plan ahead, trouble-shoot and pay
close attention to detail is vital. Overall, they provide
the key link between the Director, the cast and the crew,
whilst also liaising with the production office, and
providing regular progress reports about the shoot.
The instructors will cover the role of the First AD on
smaller independent shoots.
INSTRUCTOR'S BIOGRAPHY
Donovan Richard joined the NB filmmakers
cooperative in 2003 and worked on several projects as
a 1st AD, Production Manager, Grip, Sound and
Production Designer.
He has produced and directed Dead Flies (2005), Rebecca's
Grave (2007-2008) and his most recent films are in
post-production: XIII and Delivrance (2009-2010).
The experiences Donovan has accumulated over the years
taking all the different workshops and working on numerous
member shoots, has helped him develop a very good
foundation for the art of independent filmmaking. Don hopes
to pass along what he has learned to other eager filmmakers
who wish to produce film projects in the future.
An alumnus of the Canadian Screen
Training Centre in Directing with Directors such as
Gary Burns and Leon Marr, Danny Thebeau is also a
recipient Film and Television Certificate from NBFC
and a NB Film Short Film Venture recipient. He has
directed A Day's Grace, All Revved Up, Do-Gooders, and
more. In 2008 Danny directed award winning
performances for Best Actor and Best Actress in his
Comedy for All Revved Up.
