First ADs must be authoritative team-leaders and motivators, whilst also being approachable team players. They need exceptional organizational and time-management skills. The ability to plan ahead, trouble-shoot and pay close attention to detail is vital. Overall, they provide the key link between the Director, the cast and the crew, whilst also liaising with the production office, and providing regular progress reports about the shoot.

The instructors will cover the role of the First AD on smaller independent shoots.

INSTRUCTOR'S BIOGRAPHY

Donovan Richard joined the NB filmmakers cooperative in 2003 and worked on several projects as a 1st AD, Production Manager, Grip, Sound and Production Designer.

He has produced and directed Dead Flies (2005), Rebecca's Grave (2007-2008) and his most recent films are in post-production: XIII and Delivrance (2009-2010).

The experiences Donovan has accumulated over the years taking all the different workshops and working on numerous member shoots, has helped him develop a very good foundation for the art of independent filmmaking. Don hopes to pass along what he has learned to other eager filmmakers who wish to produce film projects in the future.

An alumnus of the Canadian Screen Training Centre in Directing with Directors such as Gary Burns and Leon Marr, Danny Thebeau is also a recipient Film and Television Certificate from NBFC and a NB Film Short Film Venture recipient. He has directed A Day's Grace, All Revved Up, Do-Gooders, and more. In 2008 Danny directed award winning performances for Best Actor and Best Actress in his Comedy for All Revved Up.
