The Production Designer conceives and creates the overall look, mood and style of the film, working in close conjunction with the Director and the DOP. Many elements are involved; one gets to play God, in fact, creating a world in which the film will take place. This can mean adapting existing locations to ones purpose, or creating new ones from scratch.
Costume design will also be considered as a vital element in creating character for the actor, and for audiences' understanding of the character.
INSTRUCTOR'S BIOGRAPHY
Donovan has been a member of the NB Filmmakers Co-operative since early 2003 and has had the chance to experience and learn from many filmmakers and workshops through the organization, whether it was in pre-production, production or post-production stages. The workshops he took would provide the basics and the film productions he worked on would seal the educational experience.
He has worked in many crew roles in filmmaking, but his main interest, when not directing, would be to be working in the Art Department. Being an artist he storyboards all of his films as well as the ones he works on very closely. He has a bachelors degree in history and being artistic he often surrounds himself with artistic people. Many of which design costumes, props or draw/paint.
Don has worked on several films but the ones that pertain the most to this workshop would be: Bathroom Stalled, A Lion's Tale, Rebecca's Grave and Gamers' Manifesto, where he was props master, costume, set design and production designer. Rebecca's Grave was his own creation and he had a heavy hand in influencing the art design.
