MEMBER OF THE MONTH: Glendon McKinney
Glendon has been a member of the Co-op since 2001. Described by Cat
and Tony at the NBFC as a creative genius and a perfectionist almost
to the point of obsession, Glendon has assisted numerous Co-op and
non-members on their film and video projects since he first set foot
in the Co-op office space and won over Cat with his artistic portfolio
and sarcastic wit.
Glendon was born and raised in New Brunswick, but spent a couple
of decades living in Toronto, Ontario. While there he received his degree in Film
Studies from York University, spent a few years behind a desk at a
job he hated till finally he rose up in horror and quit. He spent some
time in many different jobs, until mastering decorative painting, at
which he plied my trade for many years.
Film has always been Glendon's first love, and while he ached to get at
it, it was not until he returned to New
Brunswick that
he began to
realize it was time to seriously pursue this addiction. Having also
interest in design and history, he has designed costumes and sets
for a number of Film Co-op productions, including "The Sum of
Us", for Tim McDonough (Short Film Venture), "A Song For the Home Front"
by Jon Collicott (Short Film Venture) "Blowies" by Brian
Carty (Short Film Venture), and his own
first film, "They Only Come Out at Night" (Short Film
Venture). This last won
best short drama at the 2005 Silver Wave Film Festival.
Glendon is now pursuing making his own films. "Night" led
him on to winning a commission from the Struts' Gallery in Sackville
to create a short film, "We Two Boys Together Clinging",
to be streamed online soon. He is currently biting his nails over grant
proposals for another short film and am preparing work on his first
feature screenplay.
