Janice Sheridan - Advanced Production Accountant

When one imagines jobs that are available on a film or TV project, it’s unlikely that “accountant” instantly leaps to mind. And yet, when you consider the complex nature of these projects with numerous departments separate, yet intertwined; each with large sums of money being spent every day, it soon becomes apparent why a top-notch Production Accountant is a key player in any production team. Not only does the Production Accountant require a solid background in standard accounting practices but also a comprehensive understanding of the contractual requirements of the various guilds and unions that comprise a production crew.

Working closely with the Production Manager and reporting directly to the Producer, the Production Accountant is responsible for overseeing the accounting department staff, establishing accounting procedures and practices that will ensure the reliability of financial records and reports, provide cost reports, cash flow reports, monthly reconciliation, and manage petty cash.

People who take the Production Accountant advanced workshop will emerge with the following skill sets:

• Preparing accounting and office procedures for a film/television project
• Preparing production payroll, including guild remittances
• Managing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
• Preparing various cost and financial reports
• Preparing and managing a petty cash reporting system
