SAD GOODBYES

Mr. Broderick Edward (Rod) Cando, husband of Gladys (Kenny) Cando of Radio Street, Miramichi passed away Sunday November 21st, 2010 at St. John Regional Hospital, at the age of 54. Born in Newcastle he was the son of Dorcas Mae (Curtis) Cando and the late Edward Cando. He was retired from the Canadian Air Force. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Besides his wife Gladys and his mother Dorcas, he is survived by two sons, Curtis Edward Cando of Vancouver BC and Adam Broderick Cando of Victoria BC, two sisters, Dorinda Glover (Robert) of Miramichi and Janet (Henry) Bolduc of Stirling ON, two brothers, Clarence Cando of Blairmore Alberta and Anthony Cando of Millerton. He was predeceased by his father.

Miramichi based Film Co-op member Stephen McKinnon had this to say about his friend:

“Rod was a good friend and excellent cameraman who worked with me since I formed my company.  It didn't matter what the job was, he was always ready to go.  Rod was also a Photographer for the Military as I was.  We had many mutual friends in the service.  He will be missed by all.”

NBFC MEMBER UPDATES

Fredericton based members Tim and Nathalie Rayne are currently working in collaboration with local musicians on a documentary on the history of Punk in the city of Fredericton. The documentary intends to present the colorful characters and unconventional venues found within the city. Nathalie is going to start editing Arthur Thomson's film Holdfast and Tim is prepping for

pre-production on his last film in his New Brunswick short trilogy, Oldman. Tim is also finishing the first draft of his feature length film, Pulp.

Other then personal creative projects, Tim and Nathalie are busy working on industrial video contracts around the province.

Pre-production is well underway for Saint John based member Tim O’Neill’s next short Snowflake. It is an experimental piece and Tim is hoping to shoot it at the end of February 2011. Presently, with the 5th draft completed, he is putting together his crew.

AHA MONCTON GOING STRONG!

NB FILM CO-OP IS LOOKING FOR SJ MEMBERS TO RUN AHA SJ!

The Film Co-op is looking for Film Co-op member actors in the Saint John area to run it's AHA (Actors Helping Actors) Group there due to increased interest from the SJ membership and public at large.

The Co-op will locate a free room for the sessions and has outlines and structure documents to assist with the volunteer running of it. The member or members who do it will also be able to travel to AHA Moncton and AHA Fredericton a few times to see how their sessions are run and the Co-op will reimburse the member for their gas.

The member or members applying for this volunteer position would ideally be a trained actor with some experience to share and have excellent organizational and people skills.

Cat has free copies of 2009/2010 The Guide for any members in good standing who would like to get one. The Guide is the bible for film and television in Canada. It lists productions companies, labs, producers, film and video co-ops and other types of artist-run-centres, all unions, guilds and associations, film commissions, funding rules and co-production, broadcasters, distributors and exhibitors, production facilities and services, pre-production services, financial, insurance and other services etc...

Non-members can purchase a copy at a reduced rate.
