NEW FREDERICTON MEMBER EVAN CHARLES
Initiation by fire - Evan is new to the NB film co-op and is excited to take in all it has to offer! A master’s student in engineering, he is branching out to appease his right brain, which has threatened to separate if its’ demands for a greater creative outlet aren’t met. A sound believer that there is no end to learning (or so he keeps telling the Student Loans people), Evan is keen to explore something he’s been dying to do his whole life, Acting!
Evan’s film work so far has been centered on reality tv: a few home movies (where the development of his swagger was clearly documented), sporting events, and a single role as a non-speaking extra on a children’s movie. However, in spite of this limited CV, his unaccredited work has resulted in many more memorable roles such as “Acting Up” (as toddler), “Acting Out” (as teenager), and “Acting Serious” (as international consultant).
Eager to immerse himself in the available resources, he has attended the Co-op’s Direction workshop; where he was surprised to see immediate parallels to his experience in project management. Following this precedent, he plans to attend as many workshops as possible in the hopes that his other pursuits in competitive sports, overseas development and landmine clearance will prove equally valuable.
A fast learner, Evan is avidly looking forward to developing his first hand acting experience through some of the many projects going on around the province over the summer months and coming year!

RENEWED FREDERICTON MEMBER MICHELLE LOVEGROVE THOMSON
I recently completed my post as Co-ordinator of the Experimental Film Programme, and am currently the Executive Director of the Writers' Federation of NB (also housed in Charlotte Street Arts Centre (CSAC) in Fredericton - drop by). This summer I'll be making a short experimental narrative examining the colonial legacy--of both land and bodies--of the Mutineers of the British ship ' The Bounty'. I will be looking for a gentleman with a British accent for voiceover, so let me know if that's you! This film will be shown at the Fruit Farm Film Festival in Oregon, August 15-17, 2008.
In July I will be doing some shooting and lighting for member F. Chris Giles' surreal potato film "Birth of a Nicola." Chris received a NB Joy Award for this project through Linda Joy Media Arts Society in Halifax with added support from many other sponsors in the grant including the NB Film Co-op and NB Film.
This summer I'll also be taking an avant-garde cinema course at Ryerson with Bruce Elder, and finally finishing my Masters...
Next Thursday, April 24, I will be screening "me's-en-abyme" and "Hysterica & the Wandering Womb" at a reading being hosted during Moncton's Frye Festival. The reading will be a 5 à 7 held at "Kimberly the Studio" on 139 Archibald.

MONCTON - CO-OP MEMBERS TO PERFORM IN PLAY
The Capitol School of Performing Arts Presents
Diaries from the Asylum, by Normand Robichaud
WHEN: April 18-20 at the Capitol Theatre
Diaries from the Asylum is the story of Mary Huestis Pengilly's experiences in the Provincial Lunatic Asylum in 1883-84. Taken from a secret diary that she kept while a patient, it was republished by Our Voice/Notre Voix from the provincial archives in 2005. The play contrasts and compares the treatment Mary Pengilly received with that of Marie Hélène Poirier, who was hospitalized 100 years later. Mental health advocacy groups are supporting this effort to bring mental health issues back in the public eye. Normand Robichaud is a local playwright who is passionate about this topic.
Co-op members Dan Thebeau, Janice LeBlanc and Ralph Pritchard alone with long time Film Co-op supporter Line Pelletier will be acting. A Must See!
