Spotlight!
HOLD THE PRESS! - NEW FREDERICTON MEMBER TRAVIS GRANT
Travis Grant is a Fredericton native, born July 3, 1981. There is little doubt that the movie Star Wars created an explosion to his senses, propelling him through a gamut of emotions; from awe, to delight, to enchantment, to breakneck excitement. As a crowning gift, the Silver Screen instilled him with an insatiable curiosity about the film process. From that defining moment, his life's journey has been a steady progression toward filmmaking.
He began his journey with the theater, where his passion for storytelling led him to write, direct and co-star in the play "Mort's Dinner", which won theatre awards for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Outstanding Original Script and Outstanding Original Score.
His success in theatre left him with little fear of production roadblocks, and Travis dove into filmmaking. Again, wearing his many hats, he produced, directed and wrote two short films that also proved to be award winners. His first film "Paper Trail" won him a $7,500.00 scholarship to the prestigious Vancouver Film School, while the second film titled "Fixxers" was awarded Best Picture at the University of New Brunswick film festival.
After completing Fixxers Travis enrolled at the Vancouver Film School. During his time there, he directed the moving documentary "The Empty Playground" a story of a separated father unable to see his children. He also produced the short film "No Return" a film set in the Middle East, about a father who loses his daughter in a bombing attack.
His stay at the school has also provided extensive training with some of the industry's leading players, such as the award winning director and editor, Richard Martin, and Jon Hess, a director and producer with several films credits. With these established professionals as mentors, Travis achieved proficiency in Camera Operating, Assistant Directing, Grip work, Producing, and many other jobs required in the film industry. He was fortunate to work with noted Directors of Photography David Geddes and Danny Nowak, who were key to providing Travis with a rounded film education.
When not working on films, Travis works live events. He is the official camera team director for the national South Asian music festival "Desifest" which has toured in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. He has also filmed the rock group Age Of Daze on several occasions, including the Age of Daze/Collective Soul show.
Travis has also worked on several animation shorts, most recently, the short animation "StuporMan", where he provided over a dozen voices to help bring the animation to life.
There are two sides to filmmaking: a technical side and a creative side. Travis' attention to detail is second to none; he is meticulous about lighting, backgrounds, permits and licenses, continuity, and the myriad details that contribute to a successful film. From his creative side, Travis continues to explore all genres, including comedy, drama, documentaries, and special effects action films. In all his projects, his goal is simple - to make each one better than the last.

Dr. Henry Morgentaler
More than anywhere else in the country, NB aggressively restricts women’s access to timely abortion. It is only possible to receive provincially-funded abortions in Bathurst and Moncton, and then only with the referral of two physicians, one of whom must be a gynecologist. This requirement violates women’s constitutional right to timely abortion, a medically necessary service. As a consequence of these conditions, the vast majority of women abortions in NB are provided by the Fredericton Morgentaler Clinic. In direct violation of the Canada Health Act, Medicare will not cover services performed at the clinic and patients must pay out-of-pocket. One year ago, Dr. Henry Morgenaler requested “standing” (the right as a man) to sue for access to publicly-funded abortion in this province on behalf of women. He has yet to receive it, and he must be granted standing before the case begins Dr. Morgentaler is 83 years old and frail. The auction is to support the Morgentaler legal defense fund, and to support the rights of women in this province to choose legal, safe, and accessible abortion services.
