IT'S TIME TO REGISTER FOR THE NEW BRUNSWICK FILM INDUSTRY SUMMIT HAPPENING DURING SILVER WAVE!

"The State of the Industry"

SUMMARY

New Brunswick Film promotes and supports the continued growth and development of an economically viable and vibrant film, television and interactive media within New Brunswick. Every year we host an annual New Brunswick Film Industry Summit.

Held for the first time in 2006 in Fredericton, in 2007 in Saint John, this year’s 3rd annual New Brunswick Film Industry Summit is being held Thursday, November 13th in Fredericton at the Crowne Plaza Fredericton Hotel.

The Summit is an annual conference that provides an opportunity for New Brunswickers involved in film, television, and interactive media to gather in one location to network, collaborate, celebrate and learn.

The Summit allows producers, crew, animators, and industry support service providers to create new partnerships for future productions, to learn industry trends, to meet national and international broadcasters, to pitch their projects to broadcasters and producers, and to learn from distinguished industry experts.

The NB Film Industry Summit is both a networking opportunity and a training development day, and for the first time, will be at the beginning of the New Brunswick Filmmaker’s Co-operative’s Silver Wave Film Festival. Delegates of the Industry Summit can purchase a Silver Wave Film Festival pass and stay in Fredericton and partake in the film festival activities from the evening of November 13 to Sunday, November 16, 2008.

FREDERICTON - CFMDC ReGeneration SCREENING & WORKSHOP

What better way to celebrate a big birthday than by throwing a party and ensuring some great gifts? To mark their 40th anniversary last year, the CFMDC (Canadian Filmmakers' Distribution Centre) commissioned seven artists to make works inspired by films that are significant to them as image-makers. Premieres meet archetypes from the avant-garde in this unique evening that pairs new films with their influential companion pieces.

FREE of CHARGE!

Screening - November 5th, Wed, 7pm, NB Film Co-op, 732 Charlotte Street, Charlotte Street Art Centre, Fredericton

Distribution Workshop - November 6th, Thursday, 7pm, 7pm, NB Film Co-op, 732 Charlotte Street, Charlotte Street Art Centre, Fredericton

Distribution Workshop
Join Larissa for an informal workshop about distribution. She will be
discussing distribution possibilities for short films; the benefits of
having your work in distribution; the difference between commercial and non-commercial distribution; and what you need to put your films into distribution.

Instructor's Bio
Larissa Fan is a Toronto-based filmmaker, writer, and arts administrator who recently completed a Master of Fine Arts in Film Production at York
University. Larissa has worked for the Images Festival and LIFT, and is
currently Educational Sales and Outreach Coordinator at the CFMDC.

Adam Garnet Jones's Secret Weapons is an intensely personal animated film essay whose formal qualities speak to Mike Hoolboom's seminal, award-winning Frank's Cock (1993). Izabella Pruska-Oldenhof fashions a visual duet comprised of a 16mm film, The Garden of Earthy Delights, and a self-portrait photogram motivated by the incomparable virtuosity of Stan Brakhage's Christ Mass Sex Dance (1991). Jerry Thevent's Shelley renders homage to Shelley Niro's work in its meditation on binding relationships between nature, Western ideals, and native life in Canada. Louise Bourque's use of home movies in Fissures (1999) triggers a promise from mother to son in Lise Beaudry's La Vie en pellicule. With a playful, destructive spirit, Chris Gehman's Rostrum Press: Materials Testing "responds to an isolated aspect of two films by Michael Snow: Breakfast (Table Top Dolly) (1972-76) and Presents (1980-81), with an additional/incidental nod to Snow's Wavelength (1967)" (Chris Gehman). Afghanimation by Allyson Mitchell celebrates Joyce Wieland's brawn and brash, and her enduring legacy. Crushed by Susan Justin is a miniature study of grief and tribute to Midi Onodera's The Basement Girl (2000). – Andréa Picard (Cinematheque Ontario)

FREDERICTON - MONDAY NIGHT FILM SERIES

THE DUCHESS
November 3, 8pm at Tilley Hall, UNB Campus
Director: Saul Dibb
Writers (WGA):Jeffrey Hatcher,
Anders Thomas Jensen
Cast: Keira Knightley, Ralph Fiennes, Charlotte Rampling, Dominic Cooper
Run Time: 105 minutes
Country: UK
Year: 2008
Language: English

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we will be unable to screen MY BROTHER IS AN ONLY CHILD on November 3rd as originally scheduled. In its place, we are happy to present THE DUCHESS.

The highly anticipated screen adaptation of Amanda Forman’s bestselling 1998 novel, Georgiana: Duchess of Devonshire, stars United Kingdom A-listers Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes assuming the glamorous lead roles of Duke and Duchess.

Often called the predecessor to Lady Diana Spencer, Georgiana Spencer (Diana’s real-life great-great-great aunt) was the top political hostess and utmost fashion icon of her time. Struggling to be fulfilled in an arranged marriage to William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire,

Georgiana became an extremely influential power-broker among the ruling elite, using her charisma and popularity to achieve her political goals while also using her position in the aristocracy to cater to her affinity for an extravagant and promiscuous lifestyle. Rumors of her infidelity, both real and imagined, buzzed through the halls of eighteenth-century nobility, but politicians still sought her opinion. After all, it was politically safer to be seen in the company of the most popular noble of the time than have others assume you simply weren’t invited to one of her parties.

While truly the “It” girl of eighteenth-century England, the hedonistic Spencer’s life was quietly beset by strife and controversy. Recreational drug use, eating disorders and a fierce gambling addiction pursued her until her death in 1806 at the age of forty-nine.

The film adaptation brings Forman’s controversial biography to life in all its vividness. A huge production with a stellar cast and costumes so lavish that “the Empress of Fashion herself” would have haughtily approved, make The Duchess a film to behold.

LOOKING FOR VINTAGE FILM FOOTAGE ON ROAD CONSTRUCTION

My name is Brad MacDonald and I'm currently studying filmmaking in Nova Scotia. I have begun to do research for a documentary I plan to produce and am in need of vintage (1900-1980) film footage of road construction. I am aware that film footage is quite scarce and still photo's from those era's are much more common but as of right now, I am looking for motion footage. I would appreciate any help whatsoever!!! Thank you very much,

Brad MacDonald, macdonald.inc@hotmail.com
