NB filmmaker Konrad Stief is keeping very busy as usual with numerous projects in development. An essay film, a novel, rewrites on a few feature-length screenplays and a music project are all being worked on for 2010 and beyond.
His essay film ‘In Search of Dionysian Days’ is an exploration of the influences and philosophical themes behind his novel in progress Dionysian Days. This project will be shot in the summer on HD with Stief handling the cinematography. “I will be able to shoot the footage without a crew and avoid any scheduling conflicts which would delay this production.” He also states “‘In Search of Dionysian Days’ is inspired by Orson Welles' ‘F For Fake’, Jean-Luc Godard's various essay films and of course the works of Chris Marker to help structure this unusual production.”
His other projects are rewrites of three feature-length screenplays two of which are former NB short film scripts ‘A Woman for Every Man’ and ‘A Man’s Passion’; the third is 'Porque Sí'. These screenplays are being developed for production in Europe to be directed by Stief . “Finally my dreams to direct feature-length films in Europe are showing signs of promise with interested prospects.” he says, adding “but there is still a lot of work to make these dreams come true.
To add to his responsibilities is his ambition to start recording by piecemeal a solo album in late summer of 2010. “I will be playing all the guitars and bass while the keyboards, drums and eventual vocals will be augmented by other musicians.” He states “there is no deadline to complete this solo project but the time is right to begin recording the instrumental tracks next year as I continue to search for the ideal rock singer for the vocal songs.”

WE LOVE YOU MAN - NEW BRUNSWICKER HITS PEAK
By Tracy Bell for the Mount A Alumni Mag
Rubbing shoulders with such A-list celebrities as Jennifer Anniston and Ben Stiller is just one of the perks of the job for Anders Bard ('91). The co-producer of the recent feel good blockbuster movie I Love You, Man is making his mark in Hollywood.
His attraction to movies started at Mount Allison. "I became the film critic for the Argosy - not because I was moonlighting as a journalist or because I actually felt that I had a voice as a critic. It was because I got two free movie passes every week, so not only did I get to see a movie, I could also bring a date with me," he jokes.
Unsure of his next move, Anders moved to Toronto after school and worked in sales. "That's what people told me I should be doing". A two-week stint volunteering for the Toronto International Film Festival convinced him otherwise. But success didn't come overnight for this now-acclaimed film and television producer. And it was a far cry from glamourous.
"I had no money. I was living in my friend's basement. And in interview after interview I was being told that I should do something else."
Not to give up easily, Anders enrolled at the University of Southern California's film school and moved west. His first big break came as a result of a gutsy phone call that led to a meeting with one of the biggest names in film and television - Jerry Bruckheimer, the man behind such smash hits as Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop, and the CSI series.
A promised five minutes of Bruckheimer's time turned into an introduction to the president of production at Bruckheimer Films and a first job for Anders as an assistant in Hollywood. The job entailed answering phones, scheduling meetings, and getting coffee, but also afforded him a front row seat in the industry. "While I was performing the low-paid, low-brow work of an assistant, I was also witnessing firsthand how movies such as Gone in 60 Seconds, Coyote Ugly, Remember the Titans, and Pearl Harbour were being put together." INSPIRED SCRIPT PROGRAM
Dear NB Film Co-op,
Happy Holidays from Inspired Script and the Atlantic Film Festival Association!
With the New Year just around the corner it is the perfect time to start working on those new year's resolutions! For those writers out there, Inspired Script has the perfect resolution for you! Why not write the next great feature film screenplay?
Following on the success of last year's Inspired Script Program, where we awarded two writers with $10,000 in development funding, the Atlantic Film Festival Association will once again be presenting our script development program in 2010. This is a great opportunity to work with one of the top screen editors in Canada, Noel Baker, as he helps bring your outline to treatment and finally to a first draft all before September. The holidays are a perfect time to work on that brilliant idea that you may have been putting off.
Keep your eyes open for the Call for Applications early in the new year, but don't hesitate to start developing those outlines now! The opportunity is open to writers from all four Atlantic Provinces!
Once again, Happy Holidays! Looking forward to seeing all of the great outlines in the New Year!
Cheers,
Alyson
