STARR HOLMDEN - MONCTON
Starr became interested in the NB film community through her daughter in 2006 while volunteering on the Silver Wave Film Festival. She lives in Moncton, and has been assisting in many ways on different film shoots in Moncton and Fredericton in crew positions ranging from Craft Services to Production Assistant ( Temple of the Sapphire Moon, All Revved Up, A Dark Radius, Do-Gooder's, The Night is Long, A Man's Passion ). She was also an extra in several films ( The Night is Long and Rebecca's Grave ).
She volunteered at the 2007 Silver Wave Film Festival and was the volunteer Co-Lead for Galas and Events at the 2008 Silver Wave Film Festival. She is presently attending workshops in Moncton and Fredericton through the Film Co-op's annual workshop program.
She has an interest in acting, and hopes to someday produce a project of her own.

A.J. GUPTILL - FREDERICTON
I moved to Colombia, South America when I was two years old. I lived there until I was 15, then moved back to Sussex, NB for a year. Then I moved to the Dominican Republic for a year. In the Dominican Republic, I started playing around on my computer recording a few songs here and there with my friends. I really enjoyed it so I decided to go to school and learn how to do it well.
I went to the Centre for Arts and Technology and took their Audio Engineering Program. I loved the program there and had no idea how little I knew until I went there.
Since then, most of my work has been studio work focusing mainly on music, but I have a huge interest in film. I worked with Alumni Film Co-op member Doug Sutherland and his film partner Nicholas Kinsey this past fall on a feature film as the sound recorder and boom operator and it was a great experience. I recently joined the NB Film Co-op so I could learn more about sound for film and help others out while doing so.

RENEWED MEMBERS FOR 2009 RENEWED MEMBERS FOR 2009
DENNIS POIRIER - FREDERICTON
I'm Dennis Poirier and I've been a member since the 21st century started. I joined the Film Co-op with my good friend Donovan Richard when I lived in Moncton. I'm very happy that my hometown is very active with the Film Co-op with short films and workshops happening in the Moncton area. Kudos go to Donovan, Danny Thebeau and others who have been volunteering to assist Cat with this!
I moved to Fredericton about three years ago and I've been extremely busy networking and helping out on Film Co-op member projects. I'm a writer, producer, actor and grip. If you don't see my mug on screen, you'll likely see my name in the credits somewhere.
Sometimes I do double duty and act while building a set or setting up lights.
On my own projects, I'm in post on Ask Ug , and Hell Dog . I'm also involved with a a film production coming up ( Manic Chiropractic by award winning filmmaker Chris Fulton - Gamers' Manifesto ) which hopes to be seen at SWFF in 2009.
NB Joy Award recipient from 2007, Chris Giles will be finishing his film this year ( Birth of a Nicola ), which I worked on and acted in. The multi-talented BronweN is working on her short film project, and my good friend Pierre Huard and I are cooking up another short horror film. It's a light spoof on Godzilla/Japanese monster movies called The Gingerbread Xmas Massacre . The guys who brought you The Cleanup last year promise to bring you some more good, clean, wholesome grindhouse style violence yet again. Speaking of which: Blood Shed , a short gorefest film presented at the SWFF Midnight Screening last year is doing well in the festival circuit, and will be shown in Cleveland and Boston soon.
I am also a recipient of a Cultural Capital Project grant about St-Anne (Fredericton). I'm in the research phase and hoping to shoot after I'm done with "les fous de la scène" for another season.
Les fous de la scène are Fredericton's French community theatre group. We will present "Les Disparus" in Saint John at the theatre festival in April. Frederictonians will get a chance to see it in late March at the St-Anne Community Center. I am really excited about the films shot last year by Co-op members and I can't wait to see what comes out of the membership this coming year. Need a grip or an actor? Cat knows how to get you in touch with me.

PAUL ANGERS - NEW MARYLAND
During my 18 years with St-John Ambulance, I took a special effects make-up course to help train first-responders and paramedics during mock disasters and to add a visual aid for first-aid competitors. I also took a First-Aid/CPR instructor course.
I joined the Film Co-op during the shooting of Co-op member Joel Thompson's film They Didn’t Make It and was a special effects makeup artist on it.
Ever since that time, I have been very busy being involved in over 12 Film Co-op projects in a variety of roles from actor to stunt coordinator, continuity and art director.
Prior to joining the Film Co-op, I was involved with various theatre productions while in school and then later on, scoring a part as an extra for the feature film Frozen With Fea r starring Bo Derek and Wayne Rogers and as well worked as a special effects makeup artist for Film Co-op member Tim O’Neil’s Short Film Venture film Unseen Enemy .
Even though I am no longer a volunteer with St-John Ambulance, I have maintained my first responder skills by doing first-aid on film sets & training with York Sunbury Search & Rescue. I’ve recently upgraded my teaching credentials to the level of First-Responder Instructor.
After taking my required workshops and volunteering, I co-wrote & co-produced Ask Ug with Dennis Poirier this past year through the Film Co-op. This was my first venture in applying for grants & directing. I am hoping to be just as busy this year with various projects.

TOM HENHEFFER - FREDERICTON
I'm in my fourth year as an arts student at St. Thomas University, majoring in human rights and journalism. My long term goal is to become a professional filmmaker, and I'm joining the Film Co-op to get more experience and to meet other likeminded creative people. I want to work on as many projects as possible while I'm a member, in whatever capacity I can (be it acting or crew), and I hope to get all my training in before summer. I've applied to some film schools, so I may not be around next year, but I hope to be a long term member and to start working on my own projects as soon as possible.

The Arts
FREDERICTON - MONDAY NIGHT FILM SERIES!
DOUBT
February 23, 8pm at Tilley Hall, UNB Campus
Director: John Patrick Shanley
Cast: Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, Viola Davis
Run Time: 92 minutes
Country: USA
Year: 2008
Language: English
Distributor: Maple Pictures
Based on the 2005 Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Doubt features
stunning performances by Academy Award®-recipients Meryl Streep (Evening, The Devil Wears Prada) and Philip Seymour Hoffman (Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, Capote) and Academy Award-nominee Amy Adams (Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, Junebug).
The film explores the shifting, elusive nature of truth in pondering a crime that may – or may not – have occurred. Set in a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, the story centres on Sister Aloysius (Streep), the school principal. She is certain that one of her more popular teachers, Father Flynn (Hoffman), is sexually abusing a twelve year old boy, who also happens to be the school’s only black student. Despite a lack of conclusive evidence, Sister Aloysius pushes for the priest’s removal, leading to escalating conflicts between the two and questions about the faith and integrity of all involved.
Directed with artful understatement, and making the most of its austere, institutional setting – where repressed hostilities finally erupt with unbearable potency – the film deftly balances the conflict between the stoic, doctrine-wielding Sister Aloysius and the deceptively easygoing and personable Father Flynn. Expertly acted by Streep and Hoffman, not to mention Adams as the novice teacher Sister James and Viola Davis (Nights in Rodanthe) as the mother of the boy in question,
Doubt is an absorbing, unsettling parable that shows us – to
borrow from Oscar Wilde – that the truth is never pure and
rarely simple.

SAINT JOHN - FILM PIX SCREENING
If you were confronted with the news that you have a terminal illness and have very little time to live, what would you do?
Greater Saint John’s Community Film Series, Film Pix, proudly presents, in association with BMO Nesbitt Burns, an exclusive, one-time screening of the new-release indie film ONE WEEK, on Tuesday, March 03 at 7 PM.
A sensitively and thoughtfully rendered film that never indulges in victimization, ONE WEEK honestly and beautifully portrays the emotional vacuum that comes with time cut short, and those who are pulled into its vise-like grip. Ben (Joshua Jackson), a young teacher, faced with the devastating news that he has little time to live, impulsively purchases a vintage motorcycle, and points it west, not knowing where he’s going or if he’ll arrive anywhere. Leaving his increasingly confused and distraught fiancé (Liane Balaban) behind, Ben pursues a journey of self discovery as he questions everything to do with his life, and what comes next.
At times pensive, often humorous, ONE WEEK is, at all times, thoughtful.
Reduced-price, $9 tickets are available until March 02 at Thai Hut on King Street Uptown and Millidge Avenue. Rush tickets will be at the door, just before the film. All Film Pix screenings take place at Empire Theatres’ Studio 10 Cinemas.

ANNA SILK - ACTOR IN DEMAND
Canadian Actor Anna Silk is in hot demand lately. As the nicotine-withdrawn flight attendant in the popular Nicoderm commercials, fans can't get enough on such websites as YouTube. Over 100,000 hits and counting. Anna has appeared in such projects as Breakfast With Scot playing the role of Mia, a rich girl with heart. And can currently be seen on TMN in the sci-fi adventure Earthstorm , opposite Stephen Baldwin and Legacy of Fear opposite Teri Polo.
Anna was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick where she grew up and went to school. The acting bug bit her at a young age and she fulfilled her dream of acting as she took the plunge and moved to Toronto. After several years of acting classes and waiting tables, her first shot came with a role on the popular sci-fi series Mutant X . She was then hand picked by George Clooney to play a role in his directorial debut Confessions of a Dangerous Mind based on the life of Gong Show host Chuck Barris.
Her natural beauty and charm have allowed this fiery actor to take on a number of roles whether comedic or dramatic, and have allowed her to bring that 'extra' all directors look for when casting a project. Like the sperm-clinic nurse who takes her work very seriously in the Comedy Networks' Puppets Who Kill , or a "bad guy" in Lifetime's Angela's Eyes . And although her friends can attest to Anna's sweet nature, in such projects as Til Death Do Us Part she plays a wife who ends up murdering her husband as he does not live up to her standards.
Anna's more recent projects include guest spots on the popular CBS series Ghost Whisperer , Showcase's Billable Hours and CBC's Being Erica . Anna calls LA home now and is reading for leading and guest starring roles and has caught the attention of major studios and networks. The project she is most excited about is the recently wrapped Lost Girl in which Anna plays the leading role of Bo. This tough as nails character was certainly a dream role and Anna enjoyed every minute of it! Anna will have to wait until the spring to see if the series gets picked up but is keeping herself very busy in Hollywood and enjoying the sunshine!
