30TH ANNIVERSARY MEMBER ARTICLE - DENNIS POIRIER

My fascination with film started when I was barely a teenager and my mother knew I had a voracious appetite for reading and watching TV. She got me a subscription to TV Guide. By the time I was fifteen, I could finish the crossword puzzle within an hour. My mother still calls me when she’s stuck. I also had a penchant to be a raconteur, or joke teller. I did stand-up at local amateur nights. Being an introvert in real life, people never understood why I’m so quiet in social situations. I ended my comic career aspirations in my early twenties and sought to get a real job. I did however return to the spotlight as a magician one summer between college years. I had access to Harry Houdini books and his secrets where revealed to me, but without the means to create the illusions, I stuck with less impressive mentalist and card tricks. "The Apostles of Beauty" Wraps

Glendon McKinney wishes to thank all the people responsible for
last weekends' successful shoot of "The Apostles of Beauty". Kudos go to my actors but also to the crew who allowed them to appear
onscreen: camera, grips, sound, pa's, hair, wardrobe, still
photography and not forgetting craft services and everyone else. I
could not, as the director and the producer, have asked for a
smoother shoot, one which actually achieved what I had hoped for. A very sincere thanks to you all for an intense and terrific shoot: it
would not have happened without each of you.

The Arts

FREDERICTON - Theatre In The Cup is looking for actors who might be interested in performing in a dinner theatre production over the summer months. We are looking specifically (at the moment) for an actor 30-50ish (to play a father to a 20ish girl) willing to perform 2 shows per week (Fri & Sat evenings) for from July 3 until the end of September for a dinner theatre that we are trying to start in Fredericton. Alternately, 2 actors willing to work 1/2 of those dates or some combination thereof, would be wonderful, as well. Currently, we are also looking for a female 20ish for one of our female parts. Actors will be paid.

The current play is called "Stuck In The Middle" and will be performed small-stage (to about 40 seats). We are performing the type of dinner theatre known as "Atlantic Dinner Theatre". This variety is interactive with the audience, as opposed to performing regular theatre with the fourth wall.

If anybody (M/F any age) is interested in the overall in the concept for the future, but would not be available for or fit into these specific roles, please let me know. We intend to run this year-round changing plays every quarter, or as required depending on the number in the audience.

Any other information can be obtained by e-mail to rpwilso@gmail.com or by phone M-F 9am-4pm (506) 458-8327. Ask for Patrick. Or 366-2001 and leave a message on the machine.

Biz & Indie Film News

Scene from Here There and Everywhere

By Jim Lavoie

As certain as skitters come a calling in June, so too does the call for Action! around New Brunswick. I am not talking about picking fiddleheads (although there is nothing wrong with that) but about the onset of filming season in earnest in the Film Co-op membership.

In addition to members productions across NB, in this, the Film Co-op's 30th year, the Co-op in partnership with the City of Fredericton has 10 Cultural Capital films in varying stages of pre-production, production and post (more to come on this). This of course means that bookings of Film Co-op gear by members is at an all time high. Ah yes, the hills of Fredericton, Saint John, Moncton, Dieppe, Shediac, Miramichi and the other nether regions of NB are once again alive with the sounds of " *^$%&^ one more time."

Speaking of one more time kudos to the gang (or is that gangstas) involved with Blood Shed for all the recognition. To think that this little seed planted (smoked?) in Coles Island, NB has harvested acclaim from home and away is amazing. Me thinks OMG what's next?

After much soul searching (read legal advice) my only comment about my involvement in the A&E Intervention show (the show aired on June 1) is: The show is raw, real, unscripted and truly was an emotional experience. What you see is the real thing and while some have stated the show is a form of exploitation I totally disagree. You do what you have to do to beat the devil but that's a discussion we can have privately.

Having said that and just to prove how impartial I am in this column I say go Sens er Pens! Oh and one more thing, lets be careful out there!

First, understand that I totally love all things film. Participating in a film shoot is a lot of hard work and also a lot of fun. Having said that, this industry is a strange beast a lot of the time, so here are some tidbits of advice from the front lines....

Hollywood to Hartland: It's Back to Her Future - Angela Cullins
By Jim Lavoie

"Isn't it ironic?" laments Alanis Morissette but living proof is soon to be displayed, for all to see, by Angela Cullins as the lead actress in the Global Universal Inc. NB shot feature film American Sunset

Playing alongside the reenergized long time actor Corey Haim and New York's acting dynamo Frank Molina in this suspense filled thriller, written and produced by Jackie Giroux, Cullins is ecstatic. "My dream is coming true, hell it's every actors dream, to have a lead role in a major production" proclaims Cullins. "I have to almost pinch myself because not only has it happened but to have it happen here in New Brunswick is surreal!"....
