MUSICAL FILM SEEKING "HEAVENLY" TALENT
Cell Phones. Dating profiles. The Goddess of Love. Statues that come alive... and a dreadful curse!
These are some of the things that will be found in the musical "Heavenly Gifts", a short film that is currently seeking talent in the Fredericton and Saint John areas.
"Heavenly Gifts" daringly combines internet dating with Greek mythology, musicals and silent films. "It is a singing and dancing extravaganza", says Director Jon Collicott. "It is an ambitious project and we are looking forward to the challenge. I know that there is plenty of talent here in the city and surrounding areas like Saint John and Moncton. We are hoping to attract actors, singers and dancers to come out to audition on June 5,6 or 8th.
The film follows Horace, a sculptor obsessed with finding the perfect woman. He finds that perfect woman in Eliza...but unfortunately in the process he has angered the Goddess Venus. And she has wicked plans for the both of them.
Collicott is confident that the film will strike a chord with many people. The film deals with ancient themes like jealousy, vanity and the dangers of perfectionism but they are updated to modern times...especially the effects of things like the internet and how people communicate these days. "To me, film is art and I think that as art it should react to changes in society." says Collicott. "The internet, cell phones, blackberries, facebook and so forth have changed the way that we communicate; even our personal relationships cannot escape this new world of technology...and I want to examine how those effects are felt by these characters."
Anyone interested in auditioning for the film or looking to help in some other way should check out the Facebook group "Heavenly Gifts Movie" at this link:

or people can contact Amy Mabee (Casting Coordinator) at 471-5524 or by email grissom_freak@hotmail.com
Collicott also wishes to acknowledge the generous support of the Fredericton Community Arts Project, artsnb, the Bonnie Kilburn Dancers, the Centre for Arts & Technology and the NB Film Co-op. "Without the community, this film would not be happening. We are very happy to be doing this show here in a community and province that loves to support the arts."

MEMBER UPDATES/MEMBER UPDATES
Last week Film Co-op members Dennis Poirier, Pierre Huard, Bruce LeGrow, and Jeff Hackett had an opportunity to work on a little feature film called Hobo With a Shotgun in Halifax, The boys loaded up Bruce's van and took off to arrive just in time to take part in the big finale that was being shot that evening or the film. The crew shot from 7pm until 6am on both days they were on set (an abandoned mental hospital). They gave the lads shotguns, rifles, and machetes; and they were lucky enough to be in a huge scene with Hollywood star Rutger Hauer.
What was really exciting was watching the professional crew work in extreme conditions (rain, dampness, cold, fatigue). Everybody knew their job and they did it well. Watching Jason Einsener direct and fellow New Brunswicker Rob Cotterill produce was a treat and has inspired Pierre and the boys to continue doing the type of films than they like to do. It was nice to see professional actors doing their thing, considering the conditions they had to work in. Their performances were solid despite how crazy it got. In short, the NBFC lads had a great time working on what's going to be a great film with a solid crew and cast

GRAND FALLS - FEATURE FILM PREMIERE
Magical Night(s) as Plaster Rock Terror on the Tobique Premieres in Grand Falls NB, Canada
By Global Universal Pictures Inc. Publicist Jim Lavoie
No one not even Iron Man 2 was going to stop the magical forces at play as Plaster Rock Terror on the Tobique premiered (Grand Falls only) May 6th to a packed house. The night was hosted by K93's Morning Man Kirk Davidson and Janice Paradis for a special K93 VIP screening for their lucky listeners who won their way in thanks to their great Plaster Rock radio contest. Special thanks to all the gang at K93 for their endless commitment to making this a great event. Thanks also to Dorianne and her staff at the Grand Cinema 3 (a beautiful, 3 theater complex with state of the art 3d projectors) for helping pull this all together!
Peter Loughran was not the only one with a trick up his sleeve as we played a little misdirection game or our own or illusion if you will. True, the film is a thriller/horror. What was not mentioned however is that it was laid out as well as a big buffet of humor. The film combined old school effects and CGI free zone using the amazing talents of Loughran. Interwoven with action, suspense and an amazing cast whose deadpan humor had audiences laughing out loud as well as closing their eyes in fright.
The feedback on the film thus far (runs until May 13th, Grand Cinema 3, Grand Falls) has been great as we talked to many of the folks who had seen the film and loved the format. It appears old and new school can work in harmony and makes for great entertainment
