Spotlight!

NEW FILM CO-OP MEMBER

Hi. My name is Troy MacLellan. I have very little experience in the film community but look to change that in 2010. I will be starring in an upcoming (Nov. '09) short film and hope to volunteer and get as much experience as humanly possible on any other projects out there through the film co-op.

I have written several screenplays and edited a couple of medley videos on Facebook but want more. I need more. I want to be a part of as many film crews as possible this year and complete as many workshops as I can in order to start shooting my own films. If you are looking for an actor, writer, editor or anything else for that matter, drop me an email (troymaclellan@hotmail.com ) and I will do my best.

See you around............................tm.

NEW FILM CO-OP MEMBER

My name is Daniel Sharpe. I am originally from Woodstock, N.B. but have spent the last four years living in Fredericton. I'm a recent graduate from St. Thomas University with a Bachelor's degree in History and English. During my time at University I played rugby for the 'Tommies'. In addition I also spent two years in the military serving with the military police in Moncton, N.B.

My interest in film has spanned for as long as I can remember, however I am extremely excited to make the cross over from viewer to creator in the filmmaking process. Since I have no prior experience in filmmaking I am eager to learn and gain as much knowledge as I can through the NB Film Co-op (workshops, experienced members, productions) in order to broaden my understanding of the art form. I am eager to volunteer, take advantage of me!

FILM CO-OP UPDATES & ACTIVITIES

AHA MONCTON!

AHA Moncton extends an invitation to all actors living in Southeastern NB (Greater Moncton), to join their group.

Actors Helping Actors (AHA) is new actor's group aimed at fostering a strong acting community in Southeastern New Brunswick.
AHA is a fun, informal and interactive group that offers a friendly
environment for actors to practice and sharpen their craft while
networking with other actors.

Many actors out there consider themselves as a "struggling actor" which is sadly true unless you're an A lister, if so Congratulations... but those of us who aren't, we don't have to struggle alone! Acting is a profession like any other and the more you do it, the better you become.

This group is geared for actors who want to sharpen their skills, learn new skills, and share their know how with others while having fun.

Who can participate?
The group welcomes actors of all experiences and diversity and those interested in film acting specifically. Beginners to veterans are welcome! Actors should be 18 years old and up.

Space is limited so act quickly - 12 Max. Membership is free. Contact
info@nbfilmcoop.com for more information.

ALLEN GALLOWAY
I'm writing and shooting a short comedy this weekend. It will deal with rum running and prohibition. This is an optional class project. The project doesn't have to retell a factual even, but can be fiction, as long as it deals with the subject of rum running and prohibition in Canada. I'm including Abbott and Costello style comedy to lighten the mood to what is essentially corruption of officials at the time.

FREDERICTON - MONDAY NIGHT FILM SERIES

IL DIVO

November 30, 8pm at Tilley Hall, UNB Campus
Director: Paolo Sorrentino
Cast: Toni Servillo, Anna Bonaiuto, Giulio Bosetti, Flavio Bucci
Run Time: 1 hr 57 mins
Country: Music Box Films
Year: 2009
Language: Italian with English Subtitles

Director Paolo Sorrentino's audacious and inventive biopic of Italian parliamentarian (and "Senator for Life") Giulio Andreotti doesn't make the Byzantine world of modern Italian politics any less confusing (non-Italian viewers may want to brush up on the topic beforehand), but the film illuminates, in great emotional detail, important events surrounding an early-1990s investigation in which the perpetual statesman was accused of having Mafia ties. The case was appealed and overturned several times, and Andreotti never served prison time, but it effectively marked the end of his centrist Christian Democratic party and forever changed the age-old relationship between the Mafia and the Italian government.

Sorrentino's fanciful use of titles, quick edits, multiple-perspective flashbacks, slow motion, extreme close-ups, and sublime musical accents--as well as star Toni Servillo's brilliantly stylized acting--convert this airless and sinister piece of world history into a dynamic tale of moral ambiguity and seemingly invulnerable political power. Servillo plays Andreotti as an arrogant, deadpan Puck--an Italian Richard Nixon replete with easily mimicable physical tics and the conviction of his own rightness. In the film's most memorable scene, Servillo allows his ironic veneer to crack just once, in a molten monologue where, spit flying, he justifies "perpetrating evil to guarantee good." Another chilling sequence intercuts a crucial Mafia hit with shots of a particularly tense and triumphant horse race, while a punky blues number roars in the background. Sorrentino's controlled and masterly storytelling won the 2008 Prix du Jury at Cannes.

CALL FOR ENTRIES: MULTIPLATFORM, MULTI-SUCCESS! TRAINING WORKSHOP IN HALIFAX

Montréal, November 9, 2009 – Telefilm Canada is accepting applications as of today for its Multiplatform, Multi-success! training workshop, to be held in Halifax on January 13, 14 and 15, 2010. The workshop is intended for professionals living and working in the Atlantic provinces (New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Labrador) who have at least three years’ experience in the film, television or new-media sectors. Entries are accepted on a “first come, first served” basis and are subject to eligibility. The deadline for submitting an application is Monday, December 7, 2009, at 5 p.m.

The three-day workshop is designed as a tool for exploring the creation and exploitation of content in a multiplatform environment. The initiative is intended for feature film and television producers and managers of companies active in development, production or distribution of content looking to move into multiplatform creation. It also targets new-media producers and project managers working in interactive media who would like to update their knowledge of the issues involved in audiovisual and digital creation and seize real opportunities offered by the multiplatform environment in both content design and exploitation. Furthermore, participants with a concrete multiplatform-concept project will have the opportunity to discuss their project during pre-determined one-on-one meetings with experts.

The training workshop will be given in English. French-language professionals may also apply, but it should be noted that they will be invited to take part in a French-language “Multi-talents pour le multiplateforme” workshop offered under the Official Languages Activities (OLA) Program, to be held in Montréal in February 2010. French-language professionals will only be allowed to participate in one of these workshops.

Living and accommodation expenses for workshop participants residing outside Halifax will be fully covered by this initiative; as for travelling expenses, 75% of actual costs incurred will be reimbursed, upon presentation of vouchers.

For details regarding eligibility criteria, and to download the application form for this professional development initiative, please see Telefilm Canada's website.
