"It's so difficult to do indie and commercial films on a small budget in NB. The Film Co-op membership & workshop fees are so low compared to what you would pay in Halifax or Toronto. All the benefits you receive from the Organization ongoing are amazing considering the low fees".

Moncton Film Co-op Member Meet and Greet!
You are cordially invited to a Filmmaker's
Meet and Greet
in
Moncton on February 27th 2007 at Don Cherry's.
Objective: To increase the critical mass of participants in the various disciplines of film-making
(such as actor, writers, directors, etc.) in the Moncton area and provide interested people with
resources, contacts and information about filmmaking in NB with the New Brunswick Filmmaker's
Co-operative.
We plan to do this by organizing a public meet and greet on February 27th, 2007 at Don Cherry's. With
an increase in critical mass we could look at doing similar things that are currently going on in
Fredericton such as:
* Monday Night Films
* Under the Stars - outdoor films in the park
* special events such as Women in Film, etc.
* Training workshops in Moncton. With more people involved we will have more actors, crew, etc. with which to make films!!
A web site with the Film Co-op's new logo was created to inform potential attendees which also includes a registration page. Since the space is limited, I will update the site with available seating.

Remember that there are a lot of different roles to be filled on a movie set, and sometimes people
may not realize that their talents/knowledge could be easily come in handy on a movie production.
Some different roles that are not the usual mainstream coveted roles such as writer, director or
cinematographer roles are:
-Make up and special effects (sometimes includes Hair as well, but doesn't need to be together)
-Physical Special effects (maquettes, miniatures, contraptions, magicians, etc..)
-Computer FX (self explanatory :)
-Location scouts (people who love to travel, know a lot of people, know of interesting places, etc)
-Craft services (people who like to cook for lots of people! ;)
-Stunt people (anyone who loves to take a tumble, crash things and love extreme sports;)
-Fight choreographers (anyone who knows anything about any martial arts, combat sports, etc)
-Researchers (if you love to read, search and analyze subjects, we have writers who'd love to get a hold of researchers to help with subjects)
-Individuals that are specialists in any fields. Sometimes we may either have people that wish to write a movie about a subject and knowing that someone with a specialized knowledge in a field of interest would be nice to have. Example - I know of a Paleontologist, ghost hunter, car and gun enthusiast, etc.
-Costume makers
-Prop builders
-Carpenters
-Mechanics
-Electricians
-Artists (These can be of all disciplines! Music, visual arts, photography, painting, sculpting, etc…)
As you can see there are tons of interesting things to do on movies, we simply have to know who can do
these things!
So forward this information to anyone you know (co workers, friends, etc).
Hope to see you all there!

FREDERICTON - MONDAY NIGHT FILM SERIES
Feb 12, 2007, 8:00pm
SHUT UP AND SING
Co-Directors: Barbara Kopple, Cecilia Peck
Cast: Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire, Emily Robison, Simon Renshaw
Run Time: 99 minutes
Country: USA
Year: 2006
Language: English
Distributor: Alliance Atlantis
Distributor Estimates Availability As: Current
Video: N/A
Ratings: ON NR / BC NR / AB NR / SK NR / MB NR / PQ NR / Maritimes NR
An audience favourite at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival®, SHUT UP AND SING takes us
behind the scenes during a dramatic period of time for the best-selling female group of all time.
Co-directors Barbara Kopple (Academy Award® winner for best documentary feature for HARLAN COUNTY
and AMERICAN DREAM) and Cecilia Peck deliver one of the most intimate portraits of artists ever
put on screen.
The Dixie Chicks made headlines all over the world in March 2003 when, as bombs were falling on Iraq, lead singer Natalie Maines told a London audience, “We’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.” Not since John Lennon quipped that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus has a backlash been so fierce. Right-wing groups responded with radio boycotts, CD burnings – even a death threat.
Behind the scenes, we see the band endure persecution and plot their comeback. With millions of dollars at stake in music sales and corporate sponsorships, band members Maines, Emily Robison and Martie Maguire uphold their artistry and politics against pressures to just “shut up and sing.” While facing these challenges head-on the women gracefully, and with much humour, maintain a balance between career and motherhood.
At a time when celebrities are carefully controlled to not rock the boat – and media access is even more controlled – the Dixie Chicks exhibit openness and the courage of their convictions. SHUT UP AND SING will send fans into ecstasy and turn you into a convert if you’ve never heard the music before. Like the title of their hit single, they’re not ready to make nice quite yet.
“A bracingly candid documentary portrait of the artists in a career-defining transition, the film simultaneously offers a unique perspective of a nation at a similar significant crossroads. It also happens to be a lot of fun.” – Michael Rechtshaffen, The Hollywood Reporter.

STORIES/UPDATES
Hello Co-op members and friends. I need your help.
When our past company HIT! Media (Andrew Tidby, Glenn Ingersoll, Greg Hemmings) started up, our
first project was the Marty Smith Motocross Clinic DVD, Andrew Tidby, Dean Roberts, Toby Bourque
and I flew down with Steve Belyea of Base Racing to San Diego to film this instructional DVD by
one of the most famous and influential Motocross racers in the world…Marty Smith. It turned out
really well, and has a killer sound track (thanks to Slowcoaster, Ermine, JSB, and Grand Theft Bus).
I've finally found distribution for the DVD 4 years later and it was just nominated for Best
Instructional Video at this year’s Extremey Awards (this is a very prestigious awards show for
Extreme Sports Video Producers). Please forward this email to as many of you friends as you can and
please ask them to forward it to as many friends as they can (Wow, I'm a spammer now!).
Please take the 90 seconds and vote for our video! So much appreciated! You can see a clip of the video
at the vote link as well. You have to cast a vote for all categories, but there are video clips
and synopsis for each one.
