NEW FILM CO-OP MEMBERS
Hi, my name is Omshree Vasudevan.. Whew that is such a long last name, eh. I am a new member of the New Brunswick Filmmakers Co-op. I am originally from Bangalore, India. I was born in Newfoundland and grew up in India. I needed a change so I came here to Fredericton in 2002 and since then I've loved it here. The people are so nice and friendly.

I started with a course in Digital Communications at NBCC, Smythe Street and I enjoyed it very much and since then I have been interested in Video and Filmmaking. I would like to make films that are different and that bring a realization and new awareness to the people who view them. I always wanted to be a part of the filmmaking community, so here I am.

Thank you Cat and Tony.
Omshree Vasudevan Fredericton Co-op member
"Greetings and salutations all NB Film Co-op members. My name is Jordan Roherty and I've been a member of the very stupendous NB Film Co-op for 2 years now (Oh yeah, that reminds me, time to renew!). I started with a focus on learning everything and anything about film production and film making, but eventually I realized that music is what I'm really here for.

I've been playing/writing/messing around with music for quite a few years now. I took piano lessons from Sharon Hunger as well as guitar lessons from David Storey, and both were excellent teachers.

I have a bit of experience in dealing with film soundtracks, as well as some videogame music. I composed the soundtrack to Chuck Elgee's film "The Devil's Tide" (except the very snazzy song featured during the end credits... thanks Cathie for creeping us all out!) I also composed the award nomination music for the 2006 Silver Wave Film Festival. That was a lot of fun, and I'm extremely glad to have had the opportunity. I hope to offer my music for the 2007 SWFF as well.

I have also composed music for 'Conbat', a fighting game that was the final project for a group of Game Design students at the NBCC Mirimichi campus.

I'm currently 9 months into the Audio Engineering course at the Centre of Arts and Technology, learning everything there is to know about sound and recording. Aside from actually writing soundtracks, I am also interested in being 'the sound guy' on future productions.

If you're interested in an original score for your film, let Cathie know. That's it for now; here's hoping my profile pic turned out ok... Fredericton based Co-op member Jordan Roherty"
Hallo Cat,
I am just cleaning out my SENT emails and came across yours. So before
deleting I wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR. We went kayaking at Mispec beach, experienced frozen rain and ocean spray on our faces, also saw those 65 polar bear swimmers, males, females and kids, jump into the water. Have a most prosperous and happy-filmmaking 2007!

Saint John based Film Co-op member Rosi Jory

Hi Cat,
Happy New Year. I hope you had a good holiday.
I hear the Silver Wave Film Festival was a success. Well done. I am sorry I missed it while I was otherwise engaged in Nepal. Now that I am back, please put me back on your email list. Thanks.

Fredericton based Film Co-op member Franklin Cardy
RECENT MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS!
Dennis Poirier got the acting bug at age 11 when he would entertain his classmates with impressions, jokes and magic tricks. He did stand-up routines through his teens and retired at 19, after he learned the hard way that comedy is a craft you have to keep honing like acting or singing. Now with dozens of short films under his belt, he is rekindling his love for storytelling in writing and orally.

Always in a good spirits, he is an asset to any film set, on or off camera. A self-professed blog addict, Dennis writes for Here magazine and draws, paints, carves, and creates digital art when he finds time and feels creative. Entering his second 3 year term as a NB Filmmaker's Co-op board member, he hopes his recent move to Fredericton gives him more opportunities to serve the membership on film sets and by generating awareness of the Film Coop's many ongoing activities and outreach across the province.

STORIES/UPDATES

NB ARTIST ON THE MOVE

My name is Paul Hughes and I started painting in 1991: self-taught. I lived in Montreal for almost 7 years and I met many artists but one in particular; Daniel Leroux helped me a lot with my art teaching me how to mix my medium properly. Laurent Labonté who was an architect taught me perspective and dimension. In PEI, I worked for a tattoo shop and I learned colors, precision and patience.

My next move is to bring my art to the public and learn to be more versatile. Laurie Winter, an artist from the Charlotte Street Arts Centre agreed to help me out with advice and guidance to further my career in art. All of this is happening because I asked Brigitte Noel, Charlotte Street Arts Centre Facilities Manager if I could store my painting in the basement (she thought it will be better to show it off) and all of sudden my world just turned around and the whole center helped me out. I would like to thank everybody here at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre for the chance they are giving me and a big hurray for the NB Film Co-op. Peace out!
