ARTS NEWS

The 6th Silver Wave Film Festival Announces Full Line-up of Films & Special Events

Fredericton, NB - The 6th Annual Silver Wave Film Festival, November 8-12, 2006, today announced its line up of films and special events for this year's Festival. Over 40 Films from New Brunswick, the Atlantic region, across Canada and around the world will grace Silver Wave movie screens this November.

"Last year we celebrated our 5th anniversary by presenting an excellent program to our most receptive audience ever. From our Opening Night Gala Screening of Deepa Mehta’s Water and the exotic food and dance gathering afterwards at Dolans, we set a very high bar for ourselves," says Film Co-op President John Christenson. "This year, with another line up of excellent films, strong niche programs and our largest number of guest filmmakers in attendance, we are raising the bar once again. The Festival is about the love of cinema and we know that our audience will find something to love at Silver Wave this year.

The Opening Gala film for the festival will be the feature film Black Eyed Dog, which was written by NB Film Co-op member Jeremy Bouchard, shot in Moncton and Shediac, and produced by Grana Productions based in Moncton, New Brunswick. The Screening of Black Eyed Dog will take place on Wednesday, November 8, at 7pm at Tilley Hall, University of New Brunswick Campus, Fredericton, NB.

The Opening Gala Party afterwards at Dolan’s Pub in downtown Fredericton (349 Kings St.) will welcome filmmakers, sponsors, festival attendees and party-goers. There will be food and live entertainment.

The cornerstone of the Festival, NB Shorts I & II will now show on November 10 & 11 at the Fredericton Playhouse. The annual Silver Wave Awards will be spotlighted following NB Shorts II on Saturday night, followed by the rip roaring Latino Fiesta put on by the Latino Association of NB at the Fredericton Farmer’s Market.

Other special films and screening programs featured at this year's Festival over the five days include French and Aboriginal screening programs, free Sunday matinee documentary screenings, don’t miss features: The Journals of Knud Rasmussen, A Silent Love, House of Sand and Half Nelson and the always quirky and contagious mid-night screening program aptly themed this year (Dreams, Death & Horror)

Closing the 6th annual SWFF on Sunday, November 12, 7pm at Tilley Hall, UNB Campus will be the Gala feature film Bon Cop, Bad Cop. This film has become the highest-grossing Canadian film in Canada, of all time. The comedy claimed this title by knocking Porky's out of the position that it has held since 1982.

In addition to screenings and parties, the SWFF presents an annual Industry Series, a series of panels, discussions, and master classes with renowned industry professionals.

The 6th annual Silver Wave Film Festival takes place November 8-12, 2006, in Fredericton, NB. Full Festival passes can be purchased through the NB Film Co-op starting October 25. Tickets for NB Shorts I & and II and the Scouts Screening Program can be purchased in advance and on the night of at the Fredericton Playhouse.

All other Tickets sold at the door of each venue only at the time of each screening.

The 6th Annual Silver Wave Film Festival is pleased to have the support of the following Major Sponsors: New Brunswick Film, Telefilm Canada, City of Fredericton, Province of New Brunswick, CBC Television and Radio, Here Magazine, Centre for Arts and Technology, University of New Brunswick – Faculty of Arts, and The Canada Council for the Arts.

SILVER WAVE INDUSTRY SERIES 2006

The Silver Wave Industry Series for 2006 is being put into place and information should be available within the next 2 weeks in brochure form at the Co-op office and in downloadable form on the Silver Wave Website.

We are very pleased to announce the following workshop as one of the sessions in the lineup for the 2006 Silver Wave Industry Series:

WHEN: Sunday, November 11th
WHAT TIME: 9:30am - 10:45pm
WHERE: Charlotte Street Arts Centre (732 Charlotte Street), Fredericton, NB

“Working with Professional Performers" with Gary Vermeir from ACTRA Maritimes.

The quality of any production – be it a lovingly hand-crafted art piece to an industrial training video to a large-budget commercial production – will only be enhanced by a cast of performers who are skilled, trained, talented and dedicated to their craft.

ACTRA Maritimes represents over 600 professional performers in the region – many of whom live and work in New Brunswick. Branch Representative Gary Vermeir will discuss the various aspects of engaging professional talent, such as ACTRA’s various collective agreements (the Training Film Agreement has been accessed by several NB Film Co-op filmmakers/producers over the years), auditions and talent calls … and what a performer needs from a filmmaker in order to do their very best work. “

Stay tuned for more Silver Wave Industry Series updates as New Brunswick Film Day and Telefilm Canada Day come together.

- Encouraging equality and respect as a team to the many fields in the industry of entertainment.

Ethnic Rainbows/Native Casting was formed in 1997, in Calgary, Alberta on a multicultural level, developed to encourage respect to ethnics, culture and tradition. It exists to raise awareness of rules and regulations in film, commercials, festivals and community events etc. Visual and non visual minorities are respected and informed of their rights in projects in North America.

Over the years, Ethnic Rainbows/Native Casting has provided: mentoring in services for film and television productions, liaison services to productions for producers, directors, land and location personnel, assisting with wrangling in the areas of livestock, farmhouses, barns, properties and backdrop sceneries. Over time, Ethnic Rainbows has grown in its expertise of visual sensitivity to accommodate any script or entertainment project endeavor.

The reason for our passionate company name is SarahLouise Brown who owns and runs the company. She is of mixed cultures; a combination of six: Scottish, Jewish, African, European, French, German and Canadian Native Indian.

Her magnetic charisma,  assertive concern and direction is a true attribute in the very demanding industry she works in. While SarahLouise was raising a family of four, as a single parent, she managed to balance family and career, grateful to her Higher Power, that the children enjoyed the industry as much as she did. Working with T.V. series for Walt Disney, HBO movies and family oriented movies.

Over the years SahahLouise has been involved with elementary to high school level youth and parents in the integration of small drama departments in schools and communities. She has encouraged the different communities she works with to seek harmony and independence. Her expertise and wisdom has been appreciated.

SarahLouise' s passion for the arts is deep rooted in her family history on both sides. Her passion for obtaining wisdom, love of music and writing is a blend from her fathers side. Her appreciation of classic expression, where there are no limits, love of life and guiding people stems from her mothers side.

She started out in Ottawa. Her first casting opportunity took place on a major production with Donald Sutherland. The location for the film was Ottawa General Hospital. She enjoyed conversations with the very attentive Keiffer Sutherland, as he followed his father through out the set.

As a youth, SarahLouise enjoyed singing, drama, ballet and choreography of neighborhood and community plays. After the experience and opportunity on her first film working as an extra and an assistant to the casting director for the multicultural community, she was strongly encouraged to continue in the industry.

The words said to her: "you got what it takes", never left her.

It was at that point that she knew where her talent was. Her love of organization and encouragement were her key strengths to continue on. Click here to read more
