EVERYTHING
SILVER WAVE!
SPOTLIGHT
ON SILVER WAVE FILM FESTIVAL 2006 - School Media
Studies Class in NB chosen to be involved and attend Silver Wave!
We present to you the media studies
students from James M. Hill located in Chatham, NB, who will be in attendance at Silver
Wave this year. You will get to know these future filmmakers so well that
you will spot them easily at Silver Wave. Over the next two
weeks you will be introduced to all the students involved in the
winning project, entitled THE RED CARPET, that they submitted to Silver
Wave 06.
Mike MacDonald is a High School student at James M. Hill
Memorial High School. Mike is a grade 12 student at the school; he
has taken Multimedia Design, and is currently in Multimedia Studies
and Theatre Arts courses. Mike is also taking a co-op course at Fat
Cat Animation studios.
Mike works with Media 24/7, or as much as possible. He works
with a lot of Graphics, media, and photo manipulation programs. He also
works with music and sound all the time. He plays the guitar, drums, and edited
the music and sound for the JMH Red Carpet video. Mike also did the
cover art and synopsis of the movies DVD case, and filmed portions
of the video. If you look real close in the video you can see him
acting as a camera man in the background filming actors and filming
an interview. Mike is graduating this year, and is planning to move on to NBCC
to take more multimedia courses, such as graphic design, multimedia
design, game design, and 3D Modeling courses.
Senior Student of James M Hill Memorial High School, Liam
Crowell, recently was
involved in a short media studies film and played a major role in
helping create this award winning feature “The Red Carpet”
During production of “The Red Carpet” Liam Crowell took part in
writing and editing the script, discussing camera angles and stage
layouts. He also directed and starred in this short film, as the
lead role he portrayed the always “-charming” Mick Dreamy. He
was thrilled to work on this media studies project and to be
acknowledged by the
organizers of the Silver Wave Film Festival.
Liam Crowell is an active member in the James M. Hill Drama program
and enjoys script writing, filming short movies, and reading about
politics. After High School he plans to attend University and enter
into the field of Journalism.

At a young age, Sam’s love for animals quickly became obvious
to her parents, when she started bringing home neighborhood cats,
and hoarding them in her bedroom. She managed to get up to a
thousand or more, before her parents noticed whiskers and tails
peeking out from under her bed. They scolded her and sent her to
bed without supper, telling her that she would never see another
cat again.
The joke is now on them. She is now a resident of the Miramichi, pseudo
parent to a cat (Taiter Tot) two chinchillas (Calvin and Hobbes), a
hedgehog ( Thistle) and three fish (Hexadecimal, a rainbow shark,
Megabyte, an ID shark and Fong, a Chinese algae eater). So her
choice for a future career seems fitting: a veterinary technician.
She happened upon a media studies class, mostly by accident, a
little bit by her own hand. You see, she thought it would be “good fun”, and
“entertaining”, and it is.
Her role in The Red Carpet film was simple, and maybe not
entirely necessary, as a security person, standing by the pole.
Behind the scenes she did some graphic work. No, not editing as
that goes way over her head, but drawing signs and the like.
Her class plans on attending the Silver Wave Film Festival, and is
looking forward to taking a trip, and experiencing something she
has an interest in. Not only that, but she is looking forward to
learning new things, and having blast.
Sarah-Lynn Driscoll attends James M. Hill
Memorial High School and is currently in grade 12. After
graduating she plans on studying Accounting. The subjects she is
currently enrolled in are: Math 122, Media Studies 120, Multimedia
120, and Co-op 120. In the film “The Red Carpet” she was an actor and she also was
involved in costumes and props. She is glad that all the class's hard work
and energy paid off and they get to attend the Silver Wave Film
Festival!
Matt Clarke was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and from the very
start he was a traveling man. After moving from Calgary to Fort
Saskatchewan nearly a half-dozen times each, his parents got bored
and they migrated East when he was thirteen. Albeit the year he
spent there was scarring, miserable, and unbearable, he survived
his first year in New Brunswick and- quite thankfully- relocated to
Moncton. After four more moves in nearly the same number of years
(bored, again), he ended up in Miramichi. He currently attends JMH
High School and is in his graduating year.
Matt aspires to become many things, most of which are related to
movies or radio. He
would like to be a writer, public speaker, director, producer,
actor, ninja, or cameraman. However, the media field is an unsteady
one, and he believes he may end up working another job and writing
on his spare time. And sidelining as a ninja.
He has starred in many short films in his time, but to his
surprise none have ever been brought to syndication. However, he
has recently played the supporting role in a short film for the
Silver Wave Film Festival, and because of his obviously stupendous
acting, the film was a success. He is very excited to attend the
festival, and promises to sign any number of autographs for a quite
reasonable price. Matt’s greatest goal is to one day have a filmography on imdb.com.
Corey Hachey is a grade eleven student at J.M.H.
He was one of the sound technicians who worked on the winning film
"The Red Carpet", and was also one of the actors.
He enjoy all kinds of sports like, golf, hockey, badminton,
biking. He enjoys music. His favorite
band at the moment is Alexisonfire. Some people would say that
Corey is a very serious person but he does like to have fun. "Keep it
real" is his motto.

CANADA FEATURE FILM PANEL - CASE STUDY -
BLACK EYED DOG
Nov 10, 2006 Friday 2:30pm – 4:00pm

Guest Speakers: Gordon Whittaker (Telefilm Canada), Sam Grana (Grana
Productions & producer, Black Eyed Dog), Ghislain Labbè (NB

In today’s film world, it is imperative that producers think of
strategic partnerships when putting together their project.
Intra-provincial co-productions are a reality to financing many
productions. How are these deals packaged? How can a filmmaker find
a co-production partner? How is the financing and accounting for
these arrangements handled? These types of deals can be complex,
but this workshop will help demystify the process and get you
comfortable with the idea of working in a global marketplace by
examining the making of Black Eyed Dog as a case study.
Join Sam Grana, producer of Black Eyed Dog, Jeremy John Bouchard,
screenwriter of Black Eyed Dog, Ghislain Labbè, Financial Services,
NB Film and Gordon Whittaker from Telefilm’s Atlantic Office as
they discuss the making of this Atlantic Canadian film.
This workshop is aimed at producers who are planning or have
thought about putting together an intra-provincial co-production.
The workshop will also be applicable to unit production managers,
casting directors, directors, production accountants, lawyers and
filmmakers.
