28th
year of operation, and has 200 members stretched out across New Brunswick!
The Co-op provides broad-ranging support (workshops/training, creative support and mentoring, grant writing assistance, equipment, human resources, socials, informal writer/director/actor labs. It also presents diverse quality films and videos through its annual provincial Film Festival.
The Co-op also seeks to give a voice to, and develop the talents of, artists that would not otherwise have the opportunity to express their views in film and video.
NEW!!! The Experimental Film Program
The New Brunswick Film Co-op is initiating an exciting new filmmaking program aimed at fostering a growing community of experimental filmmakers. The Program will take place from September 2007 – March 2008, with monthly classes.
There is no fee to participate in the program.
The goal of this program is to encourage NB Film Co-op members to attempt alternate forms of filmmaking through varied media choices, processes, and narrative content. The NB Film Co-op supports the production of all genres of film by its membership (animation, hand-processed, silent films, documentary, drama, thriller, etc).
To achieve our goal of fostering and developing a growing community of experimental filmmakers, the program will expose members to historical and contemporary contexts for experimental filmmaking through film theory and screenings. Participants will also learn about experimental film and filmmakers through hands-on projects, a visiting artist series, and workshops.
All participants will produce a 1-5 minute film through the course.
The Experimental Film Program is open to all New Brunswick Film Co-op members who have some filmmaking experience. Ten applicants will be selected to participate.
The Program Coordinator will be NBFC Member filmmaker, Michelle Lovegrove Thomson.

ANNUAL NBFC FUNDRAISER EVENT NEEDS MORE VOLUNTEERS!
Dear NB Film Co-op members, it's that time of year again; time to help Cat and Tony by volunteering on the Fredericton Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival as security so that the Co-op can receive a donation.
Board member and active volunteer Corena Walby has taken over the recruiting and organizing of volunteers this year for Harvest Jazz and Blues to help out Co-op staff who are snowed under a mountain of work.
Corena has people signed up but still needs more!
Email her at mwalby@nb.sympatico.ca
right away as she needs to finish putting her teams in place.

Thursday night: 6pm-1am (I need 6 more)
Friday night: I'm good (I have 12)

FINE CRAFT HITS FREDERICTON
Fine craft, live craft demonstrations, great food and prizes. All of this and much more is available at Officer's Square over the Labour Day Weekend (August 31st – September 2nd). The New Brunswick Crafts Council is hosting its annual New Brunswick Fine Craft Festival, an event filled with craft from the province’s finest and most acclaimed craftspeople.
Bring the kids out for face-painting and the children's craft tent, where they can participate in craft activities led by trained instructors. Under the children’s craft tent, there will be “studios” in jewellery, mosaics, surface design, and pottery. Families can then browse the grounds and enjoy live demonstrations in wood-working, pottery, weaving, and surface design offered by professional craftspeople throughout the entire weekend. These hands-on experiences make this festival an educational experience unlike any other.
The festival also features live entertainment showcasing a different local band every day; make sure to check out returning fan favorites VETCH and Isaac & Blewett among others! For the children, the Calithumpians will be on site, as well as performers from the Elizabeth Smith School of Highland Dance.
Don't miss out on this incredible event!
For more information, contact the New Brunswick Crafts Council office at (506) 450-8989

SAINT JOHN -
Film Debut: Sharing the Waters
You are invited to attend the debut of Sharing the Waters, a film by NBFC member Sarah Bood, a student from Dalhousie University, produced for the Fundy North Fishermen's Association.
The film looks at how increasing industrial developments in Saint John are affecting the traditional fishery. Local fishermen share their concerns and the many efforts they have made to work with project proponents, harbor officials and other user groups on sharing the waters.
The film is short but it has an important message: The inshore fishery is an
important part of our region's cultural and economic heritage and with
meaningful consultation fishing and industry can continue to co-exist.
It is both touching and humorous and was a really rewarding experience to
produce. I would like to thank the NB Film Co-op for all their help and
advice,
especially "Uncle Jeff", Jeff Combs. This is my first film and not my last. I've caught the bug!
WHERE: August 23rd at 7:30 PM in the Mary Oland Theatre in the NB Museum at Market Square, Saint John
