Spotlight

Happy Birthday Baby

Colin Smart is many things. He is a director, a writer, a producer. He is an organizer, a leader, a mentor. Colin has inspired many of us along the way, taking production assistants and turning them into actors, introducing theatre actors to the wonderful world of film, and inspiring wannabe filmmakers to take the giant leap into the world of directing. A member of the New Brunswick Film Co-op for over a decade, Colin has impacted the life of everyone who has met him with his evil grin and his mischievous blue eyes. On August 20, Colin turned 40. So, as every faithful production manager should do, I'm choosing to embarrass him by gushing about his wonderfulness to the entire Film Co-op listserv. So here's to Colin, happy birthday!

Lots of love and a sloppy kiss on the forehead from your ever faithful PM and the rest of the TOTSM Crew.

Canada Feature Film Fund

Slate Development Pilot Program for English-language market

Montreal, August 28, 2007 – Telefilm Canada announces the creation of the Slate Development Pilot Program for the English-language market through the Canada Feature Film Fund (the “CFFF”). Through the provision of predictable funding, the program will assist Canadian companies in their efforts to ensure that their development slate is positioned to help achieve the CFFF’s primary objective – to increase Canadian audiences in theatres for Canadian feature films.

The primary objective of this pilot program is to encourage the companies to develop Canadian feature films that have high box office potential, in a range of genres. Second, the initiative seeks to achieve the objective of building more meaningful relationships between producers and distributors.

The Pilot Program serves as an alternate source of financing for Canadian production companies who have not benefited from a performance envelope, and will take the form of a non-interest bearing line of credit for companies that have three (3) or more projects in advanced stages of development.

The Slate Development Pilot Program is a three-year initiative, and is specifically geared towards Canadian production companies in the business of feature film development and production.

Key points:

The successful applicant(s) will have multiple projects requiring development financing.
The successful applicant(s) will be working with an eligible distributor at the early stages of development in order to solidify a stronger working relationship.
The successful applicant(s) will remain actively involved in the development of all projects within their slate.
The funds allocated to this pilot program should allow producers additional decision-making autonomy, increased flexibility in using the financial resources, and the ability to undertake in longer range planning.
Guidelines for the Slate Development Pilot Program are available on Telefilm Canada's Website along with detailed business policies, application forms and an FAQ.

The deadline for applications is November 30, 2007. Applications are to be submitted to the Telefilm office in your region. click here
