SEEKING VOLUNTEER ACTORS for a short dramatic indie film, “A Lion’s Tale”. The film will be shot over two weekends in August 2007 on location in Fredericton. A Lion’s Tale is Film Co-op member Bunthivy Nou’s directorial debut and a 2007 NB Film and NB Film Co-op Short Film Venture project.
Logline: A worn-out single mother confesses to killing her son’s school bully.
Synopsis: One fateful night, Marla, a worn-out single mother makes a grisly confession that changes the lives of everyone around her. A Lion’s Tale is a modern, stylized character drama about forgiveness and redemption.

The NB Film Co-op is a non-profit, charitable organization involved in the production of 16mm and digital films. It is into its 28th year of operation, and has 200 members stretched out across New Brunswick!
The Co-op provides broad-ranging support (workshops/training, creative support and mentoring, grant writing assistance,
equipment, human resources, socials, informal writer/director/actor labs. It also presents diverse quality films and videos through its
annual provincial Film Festival.
The Co-op also seeks to give a voice to, and develop the talents of, artists that would not
otherwise have the opportunity to express their views in film and video.
LA Based Saint John Film Co-op member in Post
My short film "Soup Ladle" is currently in post-production.
Shot on The Sony F900 HD CAM. I directed and produced it and it was shot in LA.
It will be ready for film festival distribution within the next couple of weeks.
"Soup Ladle" is a short film (8:25) about an older traditional Jewish woman (Mrs. Widelitz) who goes over to her son's house for dinner and discovers that he has a "plutonic" female room-mate. Curious about the exact nature of their relationship, she attempts to uncover the truth.

A hands-on workshop for anyone interested in doing effective sound recording on films and videos. Participants will learn about location sound, and the troubles and tribulations that go along with trying to have perfect audio in the midst of whirling fans, beeps and bumps.
Production sound techniques will be discussed and demonstrated.
INSTRUCTOR'S BIOGRAPHY
Kevin Herring is an educator and recording engineer whose career spans more than 20 years and includes work in film and video as well as engineering on classical and jazz recordings throughout North America and the UK. He has worked on a number of award winning films and videos for film and TV including the NFB & BRAVO.
Kevin’s groundbreaking use of leading edge technology has been the subject of a number of articles in such industry magazines as Studio Sound, Pro Sound News (Europe), and Audio Media.

NON-LINEAR PICTURE EDITING - FINAL CUT PRO

Final Cut Pro is an intuitive editing software that can be used to cut anything from consumer DV to uncompressed High Definition. Through a set of simple editing exercises you will become comfortable with standard editing techniques using Final Cut Pro. By the end of this class you will have a basic understanding of non-linear editing and video editing and be able to:
- Set up a basic computer editing station
- Capture video and audio onto your computer
- Organize your captured media
- Insert and arrange audio and video clips to create a show, and then add simple transitions
- Output your show to tape or video file
The primary focus is gaining competency and comfort with basic nonlinear editing techniques and vocabulary as they apply to cutting with Final Cut Pro.
INSTRUCTOR'S BIOGRAPHY
Mike Cowie has been working in film and video for over 3 years. A graduate of NBCC Woodstock in TV and video production, Michael has experience in camera, lighting, sound, grip and editing.

SPOTLIGHT ON SILVER WAVE FILM FESTIVAL 2007 - Opportunity for a School Class in NB to be involved and attend Silver Wave!
Teachers in New Brunswick! Here is your chance to win, win, win and have you and your class involved in Silver Wave 2007!
The Silver Wave Film Festival is putting out a call to all classrooms in New Brunswick to submit a 1 minute video in French (with English Subtitles) or English spoofing the Silver Wave Film Festival and all its glamour and excitement.
Students can act out a short scene, do an original music video, poem, speech, dance...whatever it takes to get their message across to showcase the glamour of the festival.
The class that wins will receive full passes to Silver Wave to attend screenings, workshops and socials and of course their trusty Silver Wave T-shirt. As well, if their submission piece is really good...it may well be the showcased at Silver Wave this year before many of the screenings.

INSTRUCTORS PROFILES
Jonathan Collicott
has been working in the NB Film & Television industry since 1997 and has worked with such organizations as History Television, The National Film Board of Canada, CBC Nature of Things, Bravo! and SCN. He also does freelance work for various independent production companies such as Egg Films, Hudson Design, Atlantic Media Works and Outreach Productions.
Jon produces documentary and dramatic films, with a strong focus on Writing, Directing and Shooting. He has also been a member of the NB Filmmakers' Cooperative since 1995 and has taught workshops on cinematography and editing.
Jonathan is also very busy on the independent filmmaking scene with his production company Dark Blue Horizons. As writer-director, he is currently in Post Production on a period musical fantasy entitled A Song for the Home Front for which he received a Short Film Venture grant from New Brunswick Film and the NB Film Co-op.
Jeremy Robinson
graduated from the Video and Television Production program at NBCC Woodstock in 2000 and then went on to work at the Film and Television Workshops in Rockport Maine as a teaching assistant and a member of the tech crew. He returned to New Brunswick in 2001 and joined the NB Film Co-op where he has worked on numerous productions doing everything from sound recording, editing, camera work, and lighting.
Jeremy is an instructor at The Centre for Arts and Technology where he teaches Video and Film Techniques. He will also be graduating from the University of New Brunswick this winter with his BA/BED. Through the NB Filmmakers' Cooperative he has taught workshops on location sound and post-production sound editing.
Jeremy is currently co-producing a documentary on the history of Blues Music in the Maritimes as well as preparing to direct a short film entitled Misdirection for which he received a Short Film Venture grant from New Brunswick Film and the NB Film Co-op. Misdirection is a comedy about an actress who does not trust her pretentious high art theatre director.

CBC Television launches EXPOSURE
CBC Television is excited to share a new project with you that continues our support for Canada’s emerging creative talent.
This summer, CBC Television will launch Exposure, a new multi-platform experience designed to showcase the very best new short digital content Canadians are producing. It’s a big opportunity for animation and digital film makers to gain national exposure for their work and win some big prizes.
Exposure will give talented digital filmmakers a place to post their work online, benefit from viewer and peer feedback, and compete with one another for prizes and prestige. The best work will be featured prominently online and on CBC Television.
Key dates for contributors:
Exposure will launch its full-featured web site on June 17, 2007.
Exposure will premiere on CBC Television six weeks later, on July 29, 2007.
In the time in between, we’re asking Canadians to upload and upload often. Upload your digital short films to

From there, the Exposure online community will view, rate, comment and help program our Yahoo! Showdown. A range of prizes, including a chance to win an online development deal worth up to $25,000, will be announced soon on our website, so stay tuned.
We are looking for compelling, original, funny, intelligent, innovative, provocative – and, especially, entertaining – short films, animation and mini-documentaries created by Canadians from coast to coast.
