RENEWED MEMBER
Jennifer Chiasson
My name is Jennifer Chiasson and I am 21 years old, Graduating from UNB with
a Major in Multimedia and Film Certificate, I am currently working as an assistant producer and graphic designer for Atlantic Mediaworks.
I had learned about the Film Co-op four years ago when I first came to Fredericton to go to University and also took a film production course from Tony Merzetti, but I only joined last year because I wanted to be able to dedicate myself more fully t members film and video projects instead of my school work. This year I was a little out of commission due to a broken Jaw but I'm back and dues are paid and I'm helping out on some film shoots.
Currently I am working on the following Co-op member projects: Colin Smart's Temple of the Sapphire Moon, Bunthivy Nou's, A Lions Tale, and Brittany Sparrow's The Perfect Cliche.
I do a variety of jobs as most independents do... My experience involves mostly costuming, makeup, hair, and 1st AD. I hope to soon be able to get a project of my own underway and look forward to continuing to work with the wonderful NB Film Co-op community!

NEW MEMBER
Amanda Hachey
Amanda is a native of New Brunswick and a business graduate from UNB Saint John. She has a passion of travel and believes in sustainable international development. She has just completed a 2-year internship in Panama City, Panama, helping with business development.
Amanda is now working in business development at Enterprise Fredericton helping citizens of the Greater Fredericton region start-up and expand small to medium sized businesses. She has also worked and studied in France and the US.
While in Panama she was introduced to the fascinating world of cinema through a network of friends. She has helped with the production of a few short films and learned to appreciate all the hard work that goes into filmmaking. Amanda sees the value in promoting the arts in our province. Being an active member of the NB Film Co-op community will give her a bird’s eye view of all the great things happening locally and across NB and will also allow her to better understand the challenges faced by independent and commercial filmmakers.
ADVANCED PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT
May 12/13 (Sat/Sun) - 10am-6pm
(732 Charlotte Street, upstairs room)
Fee: $75 for Film Co-op Members
$100 for Non-Members
It is difficult to overstate the importance of the Production Manager on a film or television project. Reporting directly to the Producer, the Production Manager is the person responsible for planning and managing the day-to-day logistics of the production. Whereas the director is the master of the creative domain, the Production Manager is the master of the operational side.
One of the major responsibilities of the Production Manager is to keep the production moving along according to the timeline to ensure production dates are met. This means the Production Manager must directly oversee issues such as, budget, scheduling, locations, accommodations, and hiring of crew.
The Production Manager is also responsible for preparing the various progress reports for the producing team. These progress reports can come in the form of the daily production report or the weekly cost report.
People who take the Production Management advanced workshop will emerge with the following skill sets:
• Preparing a script breakdown
• Preparing a preliminary shooting schedule
• Preparing a daily production report
• Coordinating transportation and housing arrangements for cast and crew
• Coordinating the various releases for cast, crew and extras
• Preparing a weekly cost report
• Identifying common pitfalls that can halt a production and how to avoid them
• Managing the production staff
Prerequisite: None

REVEALING FILM TECHNIQUE:
EDUCATING YOUR EYES
May 26, Saturday, 11am-5pm
New Brunswick Film Co-op
(732 Charlotte Street, downstairs resource centre)
Fee: $20 for Film Co-op Members
$30 for Non-Members
This is NOT a production seminar!
From the smallest independent film to the largest block-buster release, movies can teach us a great deal about how to achieve our own goals as filmmakers to create a mood, characters, a story, an atmosphere, a pace. But films are very complicated, involving hundreds, thousands of details. The plot, if there is one, is merely the skeleton of the film, the rest of it fleshes out and colours what we experience. If we educate our eyes and ears, we can learn while watching.
This seminar will investigate the many features which construct a film: script and writing, actors, credits, production design, costume design, sound, editing, and music: all these are part of the whole, each operating as part of the puzzle which makes up the complete picture. By close viewing of selections of a wide variety of films, this seminar will help you to look at and understand how a film achieves its ends.
INSTRUCTOR'S BIOGRAPHY
Glendon McKinney studied film at York University. As well as writing and directing his own works, Glendon has worked as a production and/or costume designer on numerous productions including Tim McDonough’s “The Strings Attached” and Jon Collicotts’ WW II story, “A Song for the Homefront”. His film, “They Only Come Out at Night”, won the Best Short Drama award at the 2005 Silver Wave Film Festival. His short film, “We Two Boys Together Clinging”, was commissioned by and streamed online by the Struts Gallery in Sackville.
He also teaches film history and aesthetics at the Centre for Arts and Technology in Fredericton. Glendon hopes someday to live amongst the depraved luxury of Von Sternbergs’ “The Shanghai Gesture”.

SAINT JOHN - FILM CO-OP MEMBER FILM SCREENING EVENT!
Dead to the world Premier screening
Saturday (May12 )
UNBSJ Hazen Hall theatre 7pm, Saint John
with an after party at TAPPS
A bit more information about the screening in Saint John this Saturday.
I have been researching a Television series idea of mine for the last year and have written and filmed a pilot episode.
It is a war drama and takes place in Canada with political themes that are very relevant in today's society. In this pilot, two conflicting lovers must both face the realities of war as they search for food and safety in their war torn country.
I hope to get this project picked up and have the series carried on with me. The setting is the Maritimes and although researched already, the series can go in many directions. I have contacted a few NB producers to get them out and see if they are interested.
the screening is Saturday may 12 at UNBSJ Saint John Hazen Hall Theatre at 7pm with an after party at TAPPS to complete the evening. I hope to see you there and if anyone wants to do a story on it for the media, give me a call!

SACKVILLE, NB - ART SYMPOSIUM
We would like to invite local artists their associates both in NB
and in Nova Scotia to join us at the Tantramar Art Symposium this
summer. Over 50 people from Quebec, Ontario, the West and the US have registered for the 9 workshops
BUT to date no local artists have registered. As we wish to engage in cultural exchanges across the provinces, we are offering a dramatic discount to local artists of $100 per 5 day workshop (this is a saving of $250).
This discount will run for a limited time, so please let me know if
you wish to sign up. The Gabor Szilasy, David Zsako, Judith
Klugerman and Andea Blanar workshops are almost full, so please
register soon!
We do hope that you can join us, as it will be far more meaningful
to collaborate and work with local artists.
This is also a unique formula in that many of the workshops accept
non artists, neophytes who wish to familiarize themselves with the arts.
Please spread the discount news!
Regards to all, Andrea Blanar, President of Canadian Hungarian Artist's Collective
SYMPOSIUM INFO website: http://www.chaccanada.org
