Check this out guys, this is a friend that I made through Mike Clattenburg. His name is Daniel Gaynor, he's one of the editors at Digiboyz = TPB. He directed, edited and did digital effects and all kinds of cool stuff. They used a lot of green screens.
It's just the trailer, but they did it all in 3 weeks including writing to Final Cut. I think it's awesome. Check it out

SKILLS CANADA
By Fredericton based Film Co-op member Michel Guitard
Last weekend, my friend Michel Légaré and I took part in an annual skills competition called Skills Canada. It is an event aimed at promoting skills trades in New-Brunswick and across the country. Competitors from across Canada compete to prove themselves in their particular trade. Last year the national competition, which was held in Halifax, had over 50 different skills competitions taking place with over 700 competitors. We had the chance to compete in Halifax last year at the national level in the Television/Video Production event. We managed to get second place out of 11 teams and were quite happy with the
outcome.
This year, the national qualifying round was held in Bathurst. The rules are simple. One camera, one tripod one computer and one microphone. The competitors must use only footage that they have filmed on set and have no idea what their video will be about because the judges must first hand them an envelope with the subject of their production. It is a frantic race to complete a project. The students are given their envelope at 9am, and by 3pm they must come up with an idea, shoot everything they need including interviews, edit their projects and finally complete a production brief describing the goals which the video
was supposed to achieve and of course the target audience.
After racing for almost 7 hours my team mate and I were actually able to complete our project, although it was only by the skin of our teeth because we finished final rendering with only 2 minutes left on the clock! After the judges deliberated the final decision came in and we were declared the victors. This means that we will be representing New Brunswick in this year's national Skills Canada competition which is taking place in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
The competition will be taking place between the 5th and 10th of July and will include teams from all across Canada. The difference between the provincial competition and the national competition is that the national competition lasts two days. This means that the quality of the videos will go up quite a bit. This means the competition will be even more fierce and we're certain that it will be quite a challenge.

NEW MEMBER - JON RODD
I originally hail from the red-sanded shores of Prince Edwards Island. The annual Charlottetown Festival became a backdrop to my upbringing as my father was a crewman at the Confederation Centre of the Arts. My father could get me in free to the many theatrical productions and that is where my interest in show business began its lengthy gestation.
I have always been a visual person. I think in pictures. This fact has lead my interest in theatrics to blossom in many different directions. Through my scholarly and non-scholarly endeavors I have built up experience in:
Stage Acting
Writing
Photoshop (older versions and CS2)
Drawing
Experience shooting with digital and VHS camcorders
Editing using Adobe Premiere Pro 2 & Final Cut Pro
I am currently enrolled at the Centre for Arts and Technology and taking Digital Filmmaking. As well, I am in the new NB Film Co-op Certificate in Film and Television programme.
I have been involved in a couple of short films and hope to be involved in many more. With any luck some of them will be my own creations. My two favorite parts of film production are writing and editing. I am a big geek when it comes to editing films and photos as I can spend hours editing something stupid just for fun.

NEW MEMBER - JESSE ANTHONY
Hello everyone, My name is Jesse Anthony and I recently joined the
Film
Co-op as an associate member. I'm 20 years of age and was born in
Saint John, I grew up in Fredericton since I was 6 years old and am
currently still living here.
I've worked on short films with some friends over the last few years
in which a few of them ended up screening in the NB Silver Wave film
festival. I've also made a couple of my own skateboard videos
featuring local talent that received a good video review in a National
skateboard magazine. Which then led me to make a documentary style
video about skateboarding in Fredericton that was released almost a
year ago now. All though I still enjoy rolling on my skateboard I've
taken somewhat of a break from making skateboard videos to focus more
on making films.
My passion is cinematography and I've been enjoying it since I was
about 17 years old. I have used quite a variety of 3ccd cameras
before, and currently own one that shoots 24p. I have also shot a few
rolls of super8 film and have my own 16mm camera which I shot a few
rolls with as well. Shooting film for me was a great experience because I think you truly only start to understand the craft of cinematography once you shoot your first few rolls of film.
To sum things up I look forward to working with members of the Film
Co-op and feel free to drop me a line.

It is difficult to overstate the importance of the Production Manager on a film or television project. Reporting directly to the Producer, the Production Manager is the person responsible for planning and managing the day-to-day logistics of the production. Whereas the director is the master of the creative domain, the Production Manager is the master of the operational side.
One of the major responsibilities of the Production Manager is to keep the production moving along according to the timeline to ensure production dates are met. This means the Production Manager must directly oversee issues such as, budget, scheduling, locations, accommodations, and hiring of crew.
The Production Manager is also responsible for preparing the various progress reports for the producing team. These progress reports can come in the form of the daily production report or the weekly cost report.
People who take the Production Management advanced workshop will emerge with the following skill sets:
• Preparing a script breakdown
• Preparing a preliminary shooting schedule
• Preparing a daily production report
• Coordinating transportation and housing arrangements for cast and crew
• Coordinating the various releases for cast, crew and extras
• Preparing a weekly cost report
• Identifying common pitfalls that can halt a production and how to avoid them
• Managing the production staff
Prerequisite: None
