2nd Scripts OutLOUD Contest Winners to be spotlighted at 2008 Silver Wave Film Festival
For immediate release
December, 2007
As part of a new initiative in 2006, the New Brunswick Filmmakers’ Co-operative created a new contest called Scripts OutLOUD.
The contest highlights a special and intensive workshop/lab session for two
chosen short scripts to be read out loud by NB actors and workshopped by an
award winning script writer/editor. Fredericton based writer Bunthivy Nou’s
script, The Goddess, The Ogre and the Hermit and Shediac based writer Ralph
Pritchard’s script, Narrow Escape were the two winning scripts chosen.
The first workshop/lab happened on April 23, 2006 at the Film Co-op’s studio space
at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre in Fredericton.
“This has been an excellent chance for scriptwriters to see their scripts acted
out by professional actors and to have their work critiqued and workshopped in
a private lab setting”, says Bunthivy Nou who lives in Fredericton. Bunthivy
is eager to move forward on her script draft and develop it for production
within the next two years. "It's a wonderful opportunity for emerging
filmmakers and I'm very excited to be able to flesh out my screenplay with
industry professionals."
Shediac based writer, Ralph Pritchard was also very excited about the
opportunity he has been given through Scripts OutLOUD. “No matter where you
live in New Brunswick, the NB Film Co-op is the organization to be involved
with if you want to work in film and video. I knew that a recognized and
talented screenwriter would be part of the OUTLOUD lab, but when I found out
that staff, Margo Flewelling, and Raynald Couturier from New Brunswick Film
and a well known casting director (Donna Rae Gibbs), and several actors
affiliated with ACTRA Maritimes would be participating, it was like icing on
the cake for me”, Ralph says.
